I was feverishly cleaning my house at 10pm New Year’s Eve when it hit me.
If my house isn’t 100% spotless by midnight, will anyone really care?”
Nope.
I ran through my emails and found the address of a party at a new bar that a neighbor had invited me to. I pulled on a sequined top, my long jeans, a pair of heels, my favorite lipstick and this cute new jacket I just got and ran around the corner to a party at a new Brooklyn bar.
I had so much fun, I almost missed the actual countdown!
That was my “aha” moment of sorts.
My first New Year’s Resolution?

How many things/people/friends/events are we missing out on because we’re “busy”? I’ve realized that because of “all the work” I’ve got to do to go out, half the time I don’t want to be bothered. There are people I haven’t talked to in ages because I just don’t have 2 hours to spare to catch up with them. Or maybe I’m on a budget and my friends aren’t.
It’s time to rethink things.
In other words…
Yep. That’s my other resolution. So, this year, I’m going to find ways to bring that into my own life as well as to this blog. I thank all of you who have followed me for the past couple of years, and I look forward to sharing/growing/building with you even more this year!
Love,
Savvy
• What are your New Year’s Resolutions?
P.S.- In case you’re curious as to what I wore New Year’s, this was basically my outfit. clink on the links above to see where to buy!
This is great Savvy! I had been telling myself this ALL year last year. As a stay at home mom I felt the need to have the house spotless EVERYDAY and that we (me, my hubs, our 3 year old and 2 year old) had to have a set schedule EVERYDAY and honestly I think that was more draining, frustrating and quite honestly disappointing than just….well…winging it LOL. I made up my mind that I would just let go and roll with it and I must say I’m happier with this way of thinking! As for my New Years Resolution check out my blog post about what I decided to do for 2013! http://rissastips.blogspot.com/2013/01/my-theme-for-2013.html
Happy New Year and Happy “Simplifying”
Love it!!
Best resolution ever. I can’t wait to see what light you can shed on simplifying the wardrobe.
Thank you so much for this. I really need to do the same thing. I just moved to a new location and I plan on having a new attitude. I will pass this message along.
Thank u for posting this..
Great info & outlook! I must try this!
