My Version of Oil Rinsing

I first heard about this method from Fleurzty over at Texture Playground. I tried using her method and I guess I used the wrong oil (I mixed olive oil with leftover Tui Hair Oil). And I didn’t wash it out enough, because I had greasy hair for DAYS. Then I decided to try a different method, using a different oil. I thought I’d use the Vatika Coconut Hair Oil I wrote a review about before, to see how it would work. I love it! This has become my new detangling method.
Here’s what I did:

After washing my hair with Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint Castille Soap following my regular routine. I separated my sopping wet hair in sections to detangle it. I mixed a dollop of Suave Tropical Coconut Conditioner and a quarter-sized amount of Vatika Oil into each section, and then combed it through with my shower comb. It combed through like a breeze! I hardly pulled out any hair either! I then rinsed my hair out and continued my routine as usual. My hair was nice and soft for DAYS. And well moisturized too!

    I’m going to try this!!

  • I loooove oil rinses, they are a part of my weekly regimen…and if for whatever reson I skip this step in my weekly regimen…I can immediately tell the difference. I do a oil rinse , right before my deep moisturizing conditioner.

I have also used vatika oil as well for my oil rinses..and I loved it. As of now I use herb infused oilve oil.

Btw…where did you get your tui hair oil ?

Oil rinses made a huge difference in the moisture factor for my hair….love it!!!

Take care and thanks a bunch for sharing.

I enjoy oil rinses also! I recently started using EVOO, sesame oil (filtered) and Navaranta oil (ayurvedic). I will apply the oil to my hair after cleansing and before conditioning like you. I focus on my ends. As I put the oils in my hair, I finger detangle. I apply my conditioner of choice then detangle with my Denman. I try to do rinses each time I add water to my hair (at least twice a week). Once a week, I will wet my hair and add the oils (no cleansing), detangle and rinse it out with warm water then cool water to seal the cuticles.

I have some of Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint Castille Soap but I don’t know how to use it. How do you wash your hair with this soap. Am I supposed to dilute it?

  • Savvy says:

@CC You can dilute it yes. OR you can use it straight. It will last longer if you dilute it. I dilute mine 2:1, 2 parts water to 1 part Castille. For more info on how I’ve washed my hair with Dr. Bronners click here.

    Thanks!

  • I do this for deep moistorizing with Olive Oil. The trick with olive oil is that you shouldn’t use too much (enough to fill the palm of your cupped hand will suffice).
