If you have 4a, 4b,or 4c hair this is for you. (For more on hair types, click here.) ALWAYS do this method on DRY HAIR.

Every few weeks I “dust” or trim my ends to get rid of knots or split ends. I don’t have HALF as many problems with my ends since I started doing this method. I learned how to do it from Harmony (aka- FreeWorshipFreeWors) on YouTube . I love how my twistouts look right after I’ve done this, because the ends look perfect! Plus it saves me money!

NOTE: I do NOT use some of the same products she uses (i.e. Miss Jessie’s or Infusium because they contain mineral oil, dimethicones and parabens)  but Harmony is a VERY good teacher and makes some excellent points!

  • Do you use this method?

This looks like a good method, but I have a TWA so of course I can’t dust my ends like this.

Is there another method that would good for me to do in a few months?

@JenellyBean actually, in a few months, you should be able to do this method, because your hair will be longer. In the meantime, keep your hair moisturized, keep manipulation to a minimum, take a multivitamin, and a biotin supplement, and drink lots of water. ;)

      Thanks Savvy!

I have been taking Biotin since I started my journey and I always take my multivitamin. Water is my only drink (aside from French Vanilla Cappuccino in the winter).

Its hard keeping my hands out of my hair though…. LOL

Thanks for this post! I’m growing my hair out and I’m going to try this method as soon as my hair is long enough. I wish I saw this BEFORE I cut off all my natural hair (the ends were really, really bad), but now I know.

    • I’m a random cutter. Everynow and then if I press my hair I get a little but that says those ends need to go! I just start snipping away as I flatiron it. I know this is crazy but I am always moving and have never had a constant beautician to help me take care of my hair nor do I think I’d really want to pay for that service if I found one. Needless to say I don’t have a “hairstyle” my hair length is somewhat layered and some what just random (because i found some bad patches once). I will definitely be trying this method from now on. I think my hair will be happier because of it. =)
